Signs your exhaust fan needs repair

  • Smoke or heat building up under the hood
  • Squealing, grinding or knocking from the roof
  • The fan will not start, or keeps tripping the breaker
  • The fan runs but pulls weak air
  • Heavy shaking or a wobbling fan wheel
  • Grease leaking onto the roof around the fan

What we fix

We work on rooftop upblast exhaust fans, the kind on top of almost every restaurant hood system.

  1. Motor

Burned out or overheating motors replaced and matched to your fan.

  2. Belt and pulleys

Worn, slipping or broken belts replaced and pulleys aligned so the fan runs at full speed.

  3. Shaft and bearings

Noisy or seized bearings replaced before they take out the motor or shaft.

  4. Fan wheel

Damaged or out of balance wheels repaired or replaced to stop shaking.

  5. Grease box

Overflowing or missing grease boxes replaced to keep grease off your roof.

We also add missing hinge kits so your fan tilts open for cleaning, as NFPA 96 requires.

How a repair call works

  1. Call or send a request

Tell us what the fan is doing. For a fan that is down, call so we can get a tech out fast.

  2. We find the cause

A tech checks the fan on the roof: motor, belts, bearings, wheel and wiring to the fan.

  3. You approve the price

You get the repair price before any parts are replaced.

  4. We fix it and test it

We make the repair, check the airflow at the hood and clean up.

Fan maintenance

Most fan failures start small: a stretched belt, a dry bearing. On a maintenance plan we check belt wear and tension, grease the bearings, listen for noise and look over the motor on a set schedule, so small problems get fixed before your fan stops in the middle of service.

We can line up maintenance visits with your hood cleanings, so one crew handles your whole exhaust system.

Common questions

Can I keep cooking if my exhaust fan is down?

No. Without exhaust, smoke and grease filled heat build up under the hood. Stop cooking on that line and call (202) 643-8113.

Do you work on all fan brands?

We service most makes of rooftop upblast exhaust fans. Tell us the brand and model if you have it, and we'll bring the right parts.

Should I repair or replace my fan?

If the housing is rusted through, the motor keeps failing or parts are no longer made, replacement often costs less over time. We'll tell you honestly which makes sense.

Do you do emergency calls?

Yes. Call (202) 643-8113 and we'll get a tech out as soon as we can.
